How It's Done — Kaji

Originally, our new robots was called Samsa, after Gregor Samsa, the protagonist of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. In the story, the main character turns into a vile insect. That was exactly the idea behind the game designers’ concept — to create a thoroughly repulsive, insect-like robot that would irritate its opponents.

However, the final name, Kaji, was taken from the spirits of Armenian-Georgian mythology, who were said to possess the power of invisibility — which, by the way, is also one of our mechanical Kaji’s features.

The starting point for the robot’s visuals, though, was a concept our artist had drawn “just in case” a couple of years earlier. The original idea was for a crab-like robot, but we eventually nicknamed it “the bug” — for its size and nasty temper

And yes — this is the first eight-legged robot in War Robots, so the animators gave us a special “thank you” for that
